One Reason WHY

A few years ago if someone asked if I thought I was brave I would have said, “Heck no!” but through self-reflection recently and after my first Instagram Live interview with my business coach, I realized I’m a lot braver than I give myself credit for. I owe this bravery to my mom! I just wanna thank her for being one of my reasons WHY!

This woman is my ROCK! When I was young I believed there was nothing in the world she couldn’t do. She did so many things that amazed me. However, I also saw her sacrifice her desires and her happiness for those around her. I can’t image what she could have achieved had she dove into her true calling and purpose.

She didn't have a lot of close friends. She stayed at home taking care of me and our ranch while my dad provided for us working away in oil and gas.

When I got older and more independent she decided to return to the work force. I remember her saying she wasn't qualified to do anything, that no one would want to hire her and that she didn't know what she wanted to do.

Climbing trees and having fun at the age of 65! If there’s one thing she’s taught me it’s the importance of movement and working hard to keep your body healthy and strong.

This was shocking to me - that the woman I thought could do anything was scared to go out and apply for a job! Months later she worked up the courage to apply for a job as a labourer at the pulp mill and of course she got the job.

Now many years have passed and she has been retired for a while. She struggles daily to find joy and fulfillment in her life. I believe it's because she didn't follow her true calling of helping people.

The other day she shared with me that she joined a women's fitness class and after they all go for coffee and visit. She described the feeling after connecting with these women as "euphoric". It's amazing what connection does for women who have been plugging along living a lonely and unfulfilling life for so long. I wish my mom would have enjoyed her life more, followed her calling and started building her "girl gang" 20 years ago!

She has moved a few mountains in her day but I believe she would of created a whole new mountain range had she dove into what was calling her!

I am sharing this story with you because I want you to know: You can do hard things!!!!! If you’re too nervous to do them alone, start a community of like-minded people and do the things together - NOW. We only have one life to live. What kind of example or legacy do you want to leave for your children?

One of our camping trips near Fort Saint John, British Columbia, where I grew up. A place that will always feel like home to me.

The one thing I know for sure is the HUGE amount of love my mom holds for me. I hope when my girls look back they remember me as a strong, independent woman who loved her daughters with all her heart, just like my mom.
